## 1. Points & Rewards

### 1.1 Earning Points
**What it does:** Awards the Student points for learning actions: completing videos, passing quizzes, taking exams, studying flashcards, maintaining streaks, and creating quality content. Points are the core currency of the Student's gamification and are earned automatically as the Student engages.

**Sub-features:**
- Points for completing videos
- Points for passing quizzes
- Points for taking exams
- Points for studying flashcards
- Points for maintaining streaks
- Points for creating quality content (e.g., flashcard decks)
- Points awarded automatically on the action
- Points balance shown on the dashboard
- Points event logging (earned, action)
- Audit logging of the earning points

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student completes a video and earns points.
2. Student passes a quiz and earns more points.
3. Student takes an exam and earns points.
4. Student studies a flashcard deck and earns points.
5. Student maintains a 7-day streak and earns streak points.
6. Student creates a quality flashcard deck and earns content points.
7. The points balance is shown on the dashboard.
8. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the points events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- Points are awarded automatically on the qualifying action.
- Each action type has a defined point value.
- Streak points are awarded per the streak rules.
- Content points are awarded for quality content per the platform's rules.
- Points events (earned, action) are logged with the action and the timestamp.
- The earning points is audit-logged with the account, the action, and the timestamp.

### 1.2 Points Balance and History
**What it does:** Shows the Student their points balance and a full history of points earned and spent. The Student can see how they earned points over time and their current total. The history is transparent and filterable.

**Sub-features:**
- Current points balance
- Points history (earned and spent)
- Filter the history by action type and date
- Points per period (day, week, month)
- Balance and history on the dashboard
- History available on web and mobile
- History event logging (viewed)
- Audit logging of the points balance and history

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens "Gamification" → "Points" and sees the current balance.
2. The points history shows each earn and spend.
3. Student filters to "Quizzes" for the last week.
4. The points per period are shown.
5. The balance and history are on the dashboard.
6. Student views the history on the mobile app.
7. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the history events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- The balance reflects all earned and spent points.
- The history is chronological and filterable by action type and date.
- Points per period are aggregated.
- The history is available on web and mobile.
- History events (viewed) are logged with the timestamp.
- The points balance and history is audit-logged with the account and the timestamp.

### 1.3 Rewards and Redemption
**What it does:** Lets the Student redeem points for rewards. Rewards can be virtual (badges, profile decorations, exclusive content) or, where configured, tangible. The Student browses the rewards catalog, sees the point cost, and redeems rewards. Redemption is recorded.

**Sub-features:**
- Rewards catalog (virtual and, where configured, tangible)
- Point cost shown per reward
- Redeem a reward
- Reward delivered on redemption
- Redeemed rewards list
- Insufficient points handled gracefully
- Redemption event logging (redeemed, reward)
- Audit logging of the rewards and redemption

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens "Gamification" → "Rewards" and browses the catalog.
2. Each reward shows its point cost.
3. Student redeems a profile decoration.
4. The reward is delivered to the Student's profile.
5. The redeemed reward appears in the redeemed list.
6. For a reward the Student cannot afford, the platform shows "Insufficient points".
7. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the redemption events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- A reward has a defined point cost.
- Redemption requires sufficient points.
- A reward is delivered on successful redemption.
- Insufficient points is handled with a clear message.
- Redemption events (redeemed, reward) are logged with the reward and the timestamp.
- The rewards and redemption is audit-logged with the account, the reward, and the timestamp.
