## 4. Renewals & Plan Changes

### 4.1 Subscription Renewal Management
**What it does:** Lets the Parent manage the renewal of the child's subscription: view the upcoming renewal, enable or disable auto-renewal, and change the renewal date. The Parent is reminded before the renewal. This gives the Parent control over the subscription's continuation.

**Sub-features:**
- View the upcoming renewal
- Enable or disable auto-renewal
- Change the renewal date
- Renewal reminder to the Parent
- Renewal status (auto-renew on, off)
- Renewal available on web and mobile
- Renewal event logging (viewed, changed)
- Audit logging of the subscription renewal management

**Parent User Journey:**
1. Parent opens the child's subscription renewal.
2. The upcoming renewal is shown.
3. Parent disables auto-renewal.
4. Parent changes the renewal date.
5. A renewal reminder is sent to the Parent.
6. The renewal status is shown (auto-renew off).
7. Parent opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the renewal events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- The renewal can be auto or manual.
- The renewal date can be changed.
- A reminder is sent before the renewal.
- Renewal events (viewed, changed) are logged with the account and the timestamp.
- The subscription renewal management is audit-logged with the account and the timestamp.

### 4.2 Upgrade or Downgrade the Plan
**What it does:** Lets the Parent upgrade or downgrade the child's subscription plan. The Parent selects the new plan, and the change is applied with a prorated billing adjustment. The child's access is updated to the new plan. This lets the Parent adjust the subscription as the child's needs change.

- Upgrade the subscription plan
- Downgrade the subscription plan
- Prorated billing adjustment
- Child's access updated to the new plan
- Plan change confirmation
- Plan change history
- Changes available on web and mobile
- Change event logging (upgraded, downgraded)
- Audit logging of the upgrade or downgrade the plan

**Parent User Journey:**
1. Parent opens the child's subscription plan.
2. Parent upgrades the plan.
3. A prorated billing adjustment is applied.
4. The child's access is updated to the new plan.
5. A plan change confirmation is shown.
6. The change appears in the plan change history.
7. Parent opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the change events are recorded.

### 4.3 Cancel the Subscription
**What it does:** Lets the Parent cancel the child's subscription. The Parent initiates the cancellation, reviews the terms (access until the end of the billing period), and confirms. The child's access continues until the end of the billing period and then ends. This gives the Parent the ability to stop the subscription.

**Sub-features:**
- Initiate the subscription cancellation
- Review the cancellation terms
- Access until the end of the billing period
- Cancellation confirmation
- Cancellation reason (optional)
- Cancellation available on web and mobile
- Cancellation event logging (initiated, confirmed)
- Audit logging of the cancel the subscription

**Parent User Journey:**
1. Parent opens the child's subscription.
2. Parent initiates the cancellation.
3. Parent reviews the cancellation terms.
4. The child's access continues until the end of the billing period.
5. Parent confirms the cancellation.
6. A cancellation confirmation is shown.
7. Parent opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the cancellation events are recorded.

- The cancellation is initiated by the Parent.
- The access continues until the end of the billing period.
- A cancellation confirmation is shown.
- Cancellation events (initiated, confirmed) are logged with the account and the timestamp.
- The cancel the subscription is audit-logged with the account and the timestamp.
