## 4. Smart Study Planner & Spaced Repetition

### 4.1 Smart Study Planner
**What it does:** Uses AI to build a personalized study plan for the Student: it schedules what to study and when, based on the Student's goals, exam dates, available time, and performance. The plan adapts as the Student completes tasks and as performance changes. The Student can view the plan by day/week, mark tasks complete, and adjust availability.

**Sub-features:**
- AI-generated personalized study plan
- Plan based on goals, exam dates, available time, and performance
- View the plan by day and by week
- Mark a planned task complete
- Plan adapts as tasks are completed and performance changes
- Adjust daily/weekly available study time
- Reschedule a task to another day
- Plan progress (tasks completed vs planned)
- Plan event logging (generated, task completed, rescheduled)
- Audit logging of the smart study planner

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student sets their goal (Mid-Year exam in 6 weeks) and available time (2 hours/day) in the planner.
2. The AI generates a study plan: what to study each day, weighted toward weak topics.
3. Student views the plan by day and by week.
4. Student completes a planned task and marks it done; the plan adapts.
5. Student is short on time one day and reschedules a task to the next day.
6. Student adjusts their available time to 1.5 hours/day; the plan re-balances.
7. The plan progress shows 60% of tasks completed.
8. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the plan events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- The plan is generated from the Student's goals, exam dates, available time, and performance.
- The plan adapts as tasks are completed and as performance changes.
- A task can be rescheduled; the plan re-balances around it.
- Adjusting available time re-balances the plan.
- Plan progress is computed as tasks completed vs planned.
- Plan events (generated, task completed, rescheduled) are logged with the plan and the timestamp.
- The smart study planner is audit-logged with the account, the plan, and the timestamp.

### 4.2 Spaced Repetition System (SRS)
**What it does:** Schedules the Student's reviews of material (flashcards, key concepts) at increasing intervals based on recall success, so material is reviewed just before it would be forgotten. The SRS drives the "due for review" queue and integrates with flashcards and other content. The Student sees what is due and completes reviews to keep retention high.

**Sub-features:**
- SRS schedules reviews at increasing intervals based on recall success
- "Due for review" queue of items
- Review an item and rate recall (Again, Good, Easy)
- Interval increases on success, resets on failure
- SRS integrates with flashcards and key concepts
- Daily review count and retention estimate
- SRS progress (items mastered, items due)
- SRS event logging (reviewed, interval updated)
- Audit logging of the spaced repetition system

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens "Learning tools" → "Review" and sees the due-for-review queue (12 items).
2. Student reviews a flashcard and rates recall "Good"; its next review is scheduled further out.
3. Student reviews a concept and rates "Again"; it reappears sooner.
4. The daily review count and a retention estimate are shown.
5. The SRS progress shows items mastered and items due.
6. Student completes all due reviews for the day.
7. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the review events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- Review intervals increase on successful recall and reset on failure.
- The due-for-review queue is ordered by the SRS schedule.
- The SRS integrates with flashcards and key concepts.
- The retention estimate reflects the Student's recall history.
- SRS events (reviewed, interval updated) are logged with the item and the timestamp.
- The spaced repetition system is audit-logged with the account, the item, and the timestamp.

### 4.3 Study Reminders and Streaks
**What it does:** Keeps the Student consistent with study reminders and streaks. The platform sends reminders for planned study sessions and due reviews, and tracks a study streak (consecutive days of studying). Streaks and consistency feed into the Student's engagement and gamification.

**Sub-features:**
- Study reminders for planned sessions and due reviews
- Reminder timing based on the study plan
- Study streak (consecutive days of studying)
- Streak counter with milestone celebrations
- Streak protection (a missed day does not always break the streak)
- Consistency metric (days studied in a period)
- Reminders respect the Student's notification preferences
- Reminder and streak event logging (reminded, streak updated)
- Audit logging of the study reminders and streaks

**Student User Journey:**
1. The platform sends a reminder at the Student's planned study time.
2. Student opens the app and completes the session; the streak increments.
3. The streak counter shows 12 consecutive days with a milestone celebration at 14.
4. Student misses a day but uses a streak protection; the streak is preserved.
5. The consistency metric shows 6 of 7 days studied this week.
6. Student adjusts reminder timing in notification preferences.
7. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the reminder and streak events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- Reminders are scheduled from the study plan and the SRS due queue.
- A streak counts consecutive days with at least one study action.
- Streak protection can preserve a streak for a missed day per the platform's rules.
- The consistency metric is computed over a rolling period.
- Reminders respect the Student's notification preferences.
- Reminder and streak events (reminded, streak updated) are logged with the timestamp.
- The study reminders and streaks is audit-logged with the account and the timestamp.
