## 3. Mind Maps

### 3.1 Pre-built Mind Maps
**What it does:** Provides the Student with pre-built, interactive mind maps for each topic that visualize how concepts connect. The Student can browse the maps by subject and topic, navigate and zoom, expand/collapse branches, and see the importance weighting of nodes. The maps support visual learning and revision.

**Sub-features:**
- Pre-built mind map for each topic
- Browse maps by subject and topic
- Interactive, zoomable, and navigable interface
- Expand and collapse branches
- Node importance weighting (visual emphasis)
- Tap a node to see details and links to related content
- Map available on web and mobile
- Map content gated by subscription
- Access event logging (viewed, node opened)
- Audit logging of the pre-built mind maps

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens "Learning tools" → "Mind maps" and selects Mathematics → Algebra.
2. The pre-built mind map loads, showing the central topic with branches.
3. Student zooms in and navigates to a branch (Quadratic equations).
4. Student expands a branch to see sub-concepts and collapses another.
5. Student taps a node and sees its details and a link to the related video.
6. Nodes with higher importance are visually emphasized.
7. Student opens the map on the mobile app; the same map is available.
8. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the access events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- A pre-built map exists per topic; it is organized as a central node with branches.
- The interface is zoomable and navigable; branches can be expanded and collapsed.
- Node importance is shown via visual emphasis.
- A node links to related content (video, flashcards, guide) where available.
- Map content is gated by the Student's subscription.
- Access events (viewed, node opened) are logged with the map and the timestamp.
- The pre-built mind maps is audit-logged with the account, the map, and the timestamp.

### 3.2 Custom Mind Map Creator
**What it does:** Lets the Student create their own mind maps with a drag-and-drop interface. The Student can add nodes, connect them, add text, images, and icons, and organize the map to reflect their own understanding. Custom maps are saved to the Student's library and can be edited at any time.

**Sub-features:**
- Create a new custom mind map with a title
- Drag-and-drop interface for adding and moving nodes
- Add text, images, and icons to nodes
- Connect nodes with labeled links
- Organize nodes into branches
- Save the map to the Student's library
- Edit and delete a custom map
- Custom maps private to the Student
- Map event logging (created, edited, deleted)
- Audit logging of the custom mind map creator

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens "Mind maps" → "Create" and titles the map "Biology — Ecosystems".
2. Student adds a central node and drags in branch nodes (Producers, Consumers, Decomposers).
3. Student adds text and an icon to a node, and connects two nodes with a labeled link.
4. Student organizes the nodes into branches and saves the map.
5. The map appears in the Student's library.
6. Student re-opens the map, edits a node, and saves.
7. Student deletes a map that is no longer needed.
8. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the map events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- A custom map requires a title; nodes are added via drag-and-drop.
- Nodes can contain text, images, and icons; links between nodes can be labeled.
- Custom maps are private to the Student.
- A map can be edited at any time; deletion is permanent.
- Map events (created, edited, deleted) are logged with the map and the timestamp.
- The custom mind map creator is audit-logged with the account, the map, and the timestamp.

### 3.3 Mind Map Sharing
**What it does:** Lets the Student share a custom mind map with classmates via a link or invite. Shared maps are read-only to others by default. The Student can also save a shared map to their own library for reference.

**Sub-features:**
- Share a custom map via link or invite
- Shared maps read-only to others by default
- Allow editing on a shared map (owner option)
- Save a shared map to the Student's library
- Share status visible on the map
- Unshare a map (revoke access)
- Sharing event logging (shared, unshared, saved)
- Audit logging of the mind map sharing

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens a custom map and taps "Share"; the platform generates a link.
2. Student sends the link to a classmate; the classmate opens the map (read-only).
3. Student enables "Allow editing" for a trusted classmate; the classmate can now edit.
4. Another Student receives a shared map and saves it to their own library.
5. Student revokes access (unshares) the map; the link stops working.
6. The share status is visible on the map.
7. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the sharing events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- A shared map is read-only to others unless the owner allows editing.
- Saving a shared map creates a private copy in the Student's library.
- Unsharing revokes access; the link stops working.
- The share status is visible on the map.
- Sharing events (shared, unshared, saved) are logged with the map and the timestamp.
- The mind map sharing is audit-logged with the account, the map, and the timestamp.
