## 4. Mock Exams & Past Papers

### 4.1 Past Paper Access

**Sub-features:**
- Browse past papers by subject, year, and exam type
- Paper detail view (subject, year, duration, sections)
- Preview a paper before starting
- Download a paper for offline use (where allowed)
- Marking scheme / memo view (where available)
- Access gated by subscription
- Search and filter past papers
- Access event logging (viewed, downloaded)
- Audit logging of the past paper access

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens "Assessments" → "Past papers" and selects Mathematics.
2. The list shows past papers by year and exam type (e.g., 2024 Final Exam).
3. Student opens a paper and views the detail (duration, sections).
4. Student previews the first page before starting.
5. Student downloads the paper for offline practice.
6. After attempting it, Student views the marking scheme to self-assess.
7. Student searches for "Trigonometry" papers and filters by year.
8. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the access events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- Past papers are organized by subject, year, and exam type.
- Download is allowed only where the paper permits it; otherwise preview only.
- The marking scheme is shown only where available.
- Access is gated by the Student's subscription.
- Access events (viewed, downloaded) are logged with the paper and the timestamp.
- The past paper access is audit-logged with the account, the paper, and the timestamp.

### 4.2 Mock Exam Simulation
**What it does:** Lets the Student take a full mock exam that simulates real exam conditions: a fixed time limit, the real question mix, no immediate feedback, and a single submission. Mock exams build exam stamina and familiarity with the format. Results are available after submission.

**Sub-features:**
- Start a mock exam with a fixed time limit
- Real question mix (matching the target exam pattern)
- No immediate feedback during the mock
- Single submission (no retake within the same window)
- Question navigation and flagging
- Auto-submit at time expiry
- Results available after submission
- Mock exam list by subject and target exam
- Mock exam event logging (start, submit)
- Audit logging of the mock exam simulation

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens "Assessments" → "Mock exams" and selects a Mathematics mock for the Mid-Year exam.
2. Student reads the conditions (3 hours, 100 marks, no feedback) and clicks "Start".
3. The mock begins with a countdown timer; questions follow the real exam pattern.
4. Student navigates and flags questions, answering in their own order.
5. Student submits before the time expires (or the exam auto-submits at 00:00).
6. The results page shows the score and a per-question breakdown after grading.
7. Student opens the mock exam list and sees the attempt recorded.
8. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the mock events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- A mock exam enforces a fixed time limit and auto-submits at expiry.
- No immediate feedback is given during a mock; results appear after submission.
- A mock allows a single submission within the configured window.
- The question mix matches the target exam pattern.
- Mock exam events (start, submit) are logged with the mock and the timestamp.
- The mock exam simulation is audit-logged with the account, the mock, and the timestamp.

### 4.3 Mock Exam Results and Readiness
**What it does:** Shows the Student the mock exam result and a readiness assessment for the target exam: score, section-wise performance, time management, and a readiness score with recommendations. The readiness view helps the Student gauge how prepared they are and what to focus on.

**Sub-features:**
- Mock exam score and section-wise breakdown
- Time management analysis (time per section vs available)
- Readiness score for the target exam
- Topics needing urgent revision
- Recommended study focus
- Comparison of mock scores over time
- Readiness view linked to the target exam
- Results event logging
- Audit logging of the mock exam results and readiness

**Student User Journey:**
1. Student opens a completed mock exam's results.
2. The score (68%) and section-wise breakdown are shown.
3. The time management analysis shows Student spent too long on Section C.
4. The readiness score for the Mid-Year exam is "Moderate" with a list of topics needing urgent revision.
5. The recommended study focus suggests Trigonometry and Geometry.
6. The mock score trend shows improvement across three mocks.
7. The readiness view is linked to the target exam on the dashboard.
8. Student opens Profile → "Activity" and confirms the results events are recorded.

**Rules & Edge Cases:**
- The readiness score is computed from the mock performance against the target exam.
- Time management analysis compares time spent per section with the available time.
- Topics needing urgent revision are those below the threshold in the mock.
- The readiness view is linked to the target exam.
- Results events are logged with the mock, the score, and the timestamp.
- The mock exam results and readiness is audit-logged with the account, the mock, and the timestamp.
